Smoothies are a great way to kickstart the day or enjoy as an afternoon pick-me-up. I’ve always loved drinking smoothies but I didn’t enjoy the process of making or cleaning them up.
I was inspired by Weelicious’ Smoothie Project to begin drinking them regularly, and it was through her efforts that I learned the benefits of certain ingredients, and how to properly make a smoothie, which made it more enjoyable — the drink tasted better, had greater nutritional benefits, and made cleanup easier! I’m sharing my Everyday Smoothie recipe, along with some of the benefits of a few essential ingredients. I’ve broken it down into categories since I always try to hit each category. The fruits and veggies category changes based on what I have available but the essential ingredients are always included.
Catherine from Weelicious has created a menu that can be used when making smoothies. She laminates the menu so her kids can use it when planning their smoothie of the day. Once Liv and Jack are old enough, I’ll do the same!
– 1 pack frozen acai (comes in individual serving packs from Trader Joe’s)
– 1 mini avocado (Trader Joe’s sells mini avocados which are perfect for one serving)
– 1/4 cup water
– 1 tbsp. coconut oil (high in natural saturated fats good for cholesterol levels + hair, skin, bone, teeth, heart health + digestion)
Any extra can be stored in the fridge for later. Here are some excellent smoothie straws.
