Happy New Year!
Like many people, your resolution may have involved decluttering your house. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and you don’t know where to begin, you’re in the right place!
- Start Small: Pick a drawer or a corner of the room and begin there to keep things manageable. After completing one area, move onto the next. You’ll feel successful which will help motivate you to continue. Begin in a place that you come across often.
- Pace Yourself: Take your time in tackling each room. You could begin with 15-minute sessions. Set a timeline and only work on certain areas of the room each day so that you don’t get overwhelmed creating a larger mess, and then feeling frustrated. Work during a time that is best for you — a time when you can work without being disturbed. Remember, it’s about progress so don’t rush!
- Be Prepared: Have a trash bag ready for trash and a box for items that will be donated. It’s also handy to have another box for items that need to be moved to another place in the house.
- Upkeep: Managing clutter is constant but once you have the systems in place, it will be easier to manage it daily.
